CETL® Exam and Preparation

Program Overview
The CETL program is the only practice-based certification program available in the education technology industry that bridges technical knowledge, understanding of the educational environment, and the management and leadership skills needed to integrate technology across the curriculum to advance student outcomes. This certification requires passage of two exams, a standardized multiple-choice exam and an essay-based exam; adherance to a Code of Conduct; and a recertification process every three (3) years.
The CETL Candidate Handbook has complete program details, policies, and an outline of what is covered on the exam.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree plus four years of education technology experience. Education technology experience is defined as demonstrable experience in the three overarching skill areas of the outline of what is covered on the CETL exam, which includes: Leadership and Vision; Understanding the Educational Environment; and Managing Technology and Support Resources.
Those without a bachelor's degree can apply for a waiver of the education requirement by submitting a request to the Certification Governance Committee. Please see the CETL Eligibility Policy for complete details on the eligibility criteria and the waiver process or contact the Certification Team.
